Our 9/24/2011 Entry In BARKitecture (Scroll down for Pictures)
This is South River Contracting of Roanoke, Inc.’s entry in the Roanoke Regional Home Builders' Association's BARKitecture competition to raise money for the Roanoke Valley SPCA.   We call it  “HOKIE Doghouse” These pictures show the doghouse under construction and some of the guys working on it.
Our Virginia Tech dog house was made from an old Trane heat pump that was still working after 20 + years, however, the customer wanted a more energy efficient system.   The compressor, coil, and other components were removed and recycled.  The inside is lined with sheet metal and has a layer of duct insulation between the sheet metal and the outside grill to give your “Hokie Dog” a nice insulated home.  The roof is the same "roof" that came on this model heat pump; however, we have created a solid metal top under the "roof" to prevent any water from getting into “Hokie Dog’s” house.  The double roof will also keep the sun's rays from overheating the house and will allow air to circulate through the roof.  An awning (made to look like a gobbler beak) was placed in front of the door so our canine friend can look out the door during inclement weather without getting his head wet.  We have also furnished a fluffy, eco friendly, comfortable bed.   The exterior paint colors are Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange (Virginia Tech’s colors).   This is a one of a kind doghouse.  The top even has a VA Tech football field and goal posts.  Even if “Hokie Dog” doesn’t understand (or appreciate) this house, we know the Tech fan will.    Imagine the family pooch having such a nice place to live.   Or perhaps you might be living here if your spouse kicks you out for not emptying the trash!  Go HOKIES!     All proceeds will go to the SPCA.
After finishing the "Doghouse" Scott realized our "Hokie Dog" needed a place to eat.  So, he constructed a doggie lunch bucket after the VA Tech's football team famous lunch pail.  Scott constructed the lunch bucket with scrap sheet metal in our sheet metal shop.  If you think that Scott did a super job constructing the lunch bucket, you should see the great work he does on our customer's duct work!

Our 2010 Entry in BARKitecture
Scroll down to see pictures of our entry in the Roanoke Regional Home Builders' Association's BARKitecture competition to raise money for the Roanoke Valley SPCA.  The dog house was auctioned in the silent auction during the Fall Home Show on September 26, 2010 at the Salem Civic Center.
Our dog house was made from a Trane heat pump that had the compressor, coil, and other components removed.  The inside is lined with sheet metal and has a layer of duct insulation between the sheet metal and the outside grill to give the lucky dog a nice insulated home.  The roof is the same "roof" that comes on this model heat pump, however, we have created a solid metal top under the "roof" to prevent any water from getting into Fido's house.  The double roof will also keep the sun's rays from overheating the house and will allow air to circulate through the roof.  An awning was placed in front of the door so our canine friend can look out the door during inclement weather without getting his head wet.  Two solar lights are on either side of the door for easy and safe late night entry and exit.  Hungry?  Fido does not have to go very far from a warm bed to get a snack because a water bowl and dish are on the side of the heat pump, uh, dog house. The water bowl and dish are height adjustable (or removable) so Fido can comfortably eat without straining his neck.  We have also furnished a fluffy, comfortable bed.  The bed is eco-friendly because it is stuffed with old shredded plastic bottles and is washable.   The exterior finish is powder puff, electrostatic paint which will maintain an attactive, durable finish for years.  The colors are earth-tone to fit any backyard setting (in fact, you just might want to show this off in your front yard!).  The base is made of heavy duty plastic material that is weather resistant and will not rot or rust.
If you think we put a lot of effort into making Fido's house comfortable, you should experience the comfort we sell our customers.  Lots of dealers sell a heating and cooling system - however, we specialize in selling comfort.  Just ask Fido (or better yet, ask our customers).  Wouldn't it be nice to have a new Trane heat pump making your home comfortable?
